Making horse go faster than he needs to..

I tend to make horses go faster than they should. How do I stop myself from doing this? On some horses its okay but on others I get scared.

all i can say is, you're not alone!!! go with the flow, and just try to contain the energy with your legs rather than let it all rush out the front

Would half halting work? I havent got a horse I can practice on but have seen one today I like that I cant really afford.
