I have two more days of lunging to do with Murphy. At the mo Im going in early to work - so havent been able to ride like normal, so I have been giving him 15 mins on the lunge every morning just to stretch his legs. Nothing intensive - just headcollar, lunge rope and some walking and trotting.

To make the last two days more interesting for him I was thinking of putting a little jump up - anyone else got any other ideas to make it more fun for him?

And do you think I should try and get a canter out of him - at the mo we are just staying in walk and trot as he has been out of work for a month - but I was thinking this might add variety?!

Thanks

Jen

agree with poles, I use 4 on a 20m circle, at 12, 3, 6 9 o'clock if that makes sense? then also go on to raise them up a bit at one end or both and get them to walk and trot them rather than jump them!

Well, if you have a school, you could try free schooling him instead.
Or try lunging without saying a word - just use your body language to tell him what you want him to do. You may well find that he responds to your body language already, as most horses do. And it's fun and a good bonding exercise just to use that and no verbal commands. Marius and I do a whole free schooling session, walk, trot and canter on both reins, without me saying a word.

Av you tried lunging with nothing on!! no not you silly. Try lunging you horse with no lunge line and bridle/cavison. Use to do this to one of mine. Even when she was in the field with the others. You'll be surprised how they listen to you. Try it!

I loose lunged my tb today, he really loved it. Gave a few bucks with excitement. Went over a few jumps without being asked lol.

I think he really enjoyed it, but sometimes the speed he was doing i was worried that he would jump out of the arena.

I lunged my boy over some raised poles last night. he thought it was very exciting , lots of snorting, lovely lateral work in trying to duck out and a few bucks and rears! He got it in the end though!
