Making SJ poles heavier?

Hi, I am looking for inventive ways to make my lightweight SJ poles heavier. We are soon to be moving to a new, sole use yard, and therefore my old poles / jump wings from when we were kids need to be pulled from their shed retirement, back into action whilst I save up for some new additions to the course. However, they are very lightweight, as were used for ponies / when we were kids, so we could move them ourselves. Now with horses, they just go flying if they're so much as tapped. They are designed to come apart in the middle so they can be easily stored - I am thinking therefore they could be filled, then permanently sealed (I don't need to keep that feature!) but not quite sure with what... wooden poles, sand? Has anyone done similar and got any good ideas? Thanks very much!
 
another wooden pole might rattle - I'd go with sand

I have lightweight poles from bygone years of a top end SJ who needed to practice being careful.
No use at all with my chunky / hairies who need to start from scratch - I don't think they come apart sadly.
 
I filled mine with very fine gravel. Only enough of them for the top bars, then the lower ones were still very easy for people to move around.
