In Vets is my question - i have a friend who totally refuses to have a female vet to her horses - personally I don't mind male or female although I do prefer the man from my surgery just because i've had him for years and like his ways.

Hmm, so if it was a matter of life or death, let's say colic and a female vet turned up with buscopan etc. to administer to her horse, she'd turn her away.

That could be very short sighted of her.

No preference myself but i do know someone who's horse doesn't like strange men so something like that could give someone a reason to have a preference.
My mums horse can be a bit funny with men (shy away from them) but i think sometimes they are a bit rougher than women and she does't like this, we still let her be seen by both men and women though.

I have no preference, although all the vets that specialise in horses at my practice are all female. Only ever had 2 male vets out on 2 occasions in all the years of owning horses and one of them didn't appear that confident around horses, poor guy I think he was fresh out of college.

I think your friend is living in the 1950s!!

I have two vets who come out to sort my horses and have no preference over either (and depends on which is available). One is a man, one is a woman. Both are incredibly knowledgeable and I trust their advice 100%. The female vet has a very horsey family as her mum owns a livery yard and the male vet I have known almost all my life and was on PC teams with his daughters so they are both very "horsey" :D

I've only known 2 female vets, but i don't mind either way, as long as they know what they're doing.

Do have to say if it's a good looking male it does make the experience more pleasant though... for me, not the horse! ;) :D

Couldn't care less, as long as they can do the job in a professional manner. Come out in emergencies, come out for set appointments on the day organised and know what they are doing when they get there.

When i read the title, I though this was about do you prefer mares or geldings, and I was going to say geldings if you want a quiet life, but if you can form a bond with a mare she'll jump the moon for you if you asked her. :D :D

A Vet? why would it matter?
