After reading a post on here about Monshall Retirement Livery I am setting off tomorrow for an 850 mile round trip to take my old boy there. I have owned him for 21 years after buying him as a nutty 5 year old. Now a even more nutty 26 year old he is going to live a life of grass and sleep down in sunny Devon with lots of other old girls and boys.

My 31 y/o lives with my other horses and I see her every day. I know not everyone can do this but she takes me about 15 mins a day to care for in winter, less in summer, and I cuddle her in free moments. Not sure how much retirement livery is so it may be cheaper but as I muck her out etc myself I doubt it. I don't think I could have her so far away and not see her everyday though, if even ever see her again. I guess I'm lucky in that people around me have also been used to her being around and will help out when I am under a lot of pressure at work etc though to be fair, I never need them to really.

Hope the trip went well and you found the yard up all those little lanes. Its a fantastic place, my gelding loves it & I'm sure your boy will settle quickly and have a very happy retirement!

Thanks for all your messages, I got there safe and sound after a 12 hour drive in the box, I hasten to add that not all of this was with my horse loaded in the wagon! All went well and he unloaded and went into the stable for the night like he'd lived there all his life. After a few day's recuperation and chilling he will be off out to play with new friends. I thank Natalie for a great welcome and some scrumptious banana and walnut cake, homemade I add and a very much needed cup of tea. After another 16 hours with sleep breaks inbetween I eventually arrived home and hosed down the box with my willing 4 year olds help!

Many Thanks to the H and H readers who wrote about this lovely yard as I would never have found his heavenly place without them.
