I know compared to what most people can achieve it isn't much but it is a big step in the right direction (excuse the pun!) for me. I have had Oliver for 6 months now and been riding him for about 3 due to a back injury just after getting him and I have struggled all that time to get him to stand still for me to get on. He walks backwards, forwards & sideways usually but I was on my own, no-one else around and I just thought, "Right, you have no choice Ollie, you will stand still" and he did! I can't leap aboard because of my back problem so I am really happy that he has finally learned how to help his Mummy!!

I sympathise with the need for a horse to stand still..my back won't stand them moving around either so i know what a big step forward this is..it really makes the difference to be able to go and ride your horse...or not

Hurrah..onwards and upwards

Well done! I always find that I can achieve more when I'm on my own as there are no distractions and you know there isn't anyone watching you who may be quick to judge your methods. This in itself can calm you down and then positive vibes are transferred to the horse. I usually like to deal and ride my horse when the yard is quiet and then we have a good day. Just aswell I don't compete or anything!!
