Just wanted to let those of you who were so great with advice that we managed it!

Tried a new farrier (MB's boyf) and he was great! Ty had a few moments (one which made me do a footballers dive to the side of the box as he launced himself at me - I have lovely bruises!) but once he realised that acting like a petulent child was not going to get him out of being shod he chilled.

Been told to wear him out beforehand next time but finally no sedation!

Have you got some arnica for your bruises?

No need to get some - don't know how I didn't kill him - one food landed in the farriers tool kit and my knee landed on that 3 prong effort they bang the shoes with - owwwwwwwwwwww

Good farriers are worth their weight in gold - when Stella had bruised soles and we were nailing shoes in, she threw the shoe about 4 times before we got it on. I paid him double for his patience, and the extra time it took! It was the best $50 I have ever spent.

Couldn't agree more - took him out for a drink afterwards - I think he deserved it! He was just so patient with him

It just takes so little for you go back to square one - good farriers are so busy these days, and would rather not deal with paddies you really have to make it worth their while to solve the problem!

I think if you persist with shoeing without sedation and do what we did on sat, in 6 months time he'll be as good as gold.

Noticed that it's not a fear issue with Ty - more a "temper tantrum" the moment he gets bored with standing still
