Seriously - I know many of you will hae read that title and rolled your eyes - I would do normally but........

Every now and then a girl likes to feel glam! I've hopefully got an important job interview and hunt ball coming up in February and was thinking of having my nails done with acrylic tips but not long - in fact barely past the end of my fingers. So the question is (excuse the punctuation of no question mark - it's not working!) those of you who do dare have them how do you manage. I have horses at home so do everything myself, they are all stabled. I'm mainly thinking about pulling out the haylage from the bale etc.......riding and grooming I think I can manage. Do gloves help if you wear them all the time

Hot tea and toast all round!

You'll be fine! As long as you keep them quite short they shouldn't ping off everywhere. That said, it does depend on how strong your natural nail is and how good your nail technician is (try to pick someone who has been on a training course for the nail products they use and do NOT go for someone who uses acrylic nail drills!).
However I would suggest looking at gel extensions instead of acrylic as they are kinder to the nail in the long run, and if you get any 'lifting' of the extensions you won't risk fungal nail infections (acrylic is porous so if water gets under the extension it causes an infection in your nail-not ideal with horses due to being around lots of mud and water!). Plus, I think gels look nicer!
I've had my extensions for years and I have lost very few because of the horses, but mine are short gel overlays so that may be why.
I know there can be some prejudice over false nails, but if you keep them as natural looking as possible I think they can look quite smart!
Hope this has been of some help x

I dont wear them myself but a couple of the girls at the yard do and they seem to get on ok with them and the horses!

Good luck for your interview! :)

I occasionally treat myself to a set and can usually make them last two to three weeks. Always wear gloves and try to keep them as clean as possible is all I can suggest really. Worse thing I found that weakened them was pulling haylage of a round bale rather than actually riding.

Have fun at the ball and good luck with the interview!

I hAve mine done, I have acrylic ones I make my last every 4 wks
I have never broke mine , luckily the girl who works for me owns her own beauty salon
, the only problem I get I's dirt underneath
And trying to do throatlash up can be a pain

I had the opposite problem last year!

Hubby and I got married last June and the eve of the big day I had some gel acrylics (is that the correct term? I'm not a big girly girl!!) put on. They lasted me for about 4-5 weeks until the newly grown nail was visible underneath. They were very strong, I didn't break any at all when doing the usual yard duties, but one did come off about three weeks after when Polly decided to have a spack attack in the school (those damn dragons hiding in the hedge!) and I caught it in her mane and it ripped off! I did find that after a while they did get a bit dirty underneath though. They eventually just annoyed me though and I pulled them off by myself - not the smartest of moves as I still have marks from my nails from it now!

Thank you for all your good luck messages!

Right off I go to book some nails then - might wait another week or so though because both are later on in Feb so don't want to run the risk of losing one before!! I have had them before and can remember how bloody awful they were to try and clean out underneath them!!
