I always feel so sad when I read of a suicide, a friend's Mum did it and it destroyed her daughter's life for ever after.
I suppose policemen are no different to the rest of us when under extreme stress, but I wonder what drove him to it.
Apparently he left notes so perhaps a personal matter, whatever the reason, my sympathies to his family tonight.
A shame, he looked to be a good policeman from the reports.

Police officers are just members of the public who wear a uniform and eat, sleep and live just like the rest of the human race. We deal with hideous things that we can never speak to our loved ones about and the stress of that is unbelievable.
Very very sad news I just hope the media havn't jumped to conclusions again and hurt the family more than they need at this time of sadness!

I don't think the media were jumping to conclusions, the Ass Comm said there were notes found written to his family.
Unless he got disorientated and just died of exposure, and wrote the notes knowing he wouldn't be saved?
Whatever happened, very very sad and a loss of a fine man.

I have to say when I first heard the news, even before the talk of notes etc, I did wonder what on earth anyone was doing out in Snowdonia on a night like that. The weather was evil. Poor guy though, sounds like he was a really good chap.

I felt really sad to hear about this, particularly given some of the inaccurate media reporting that then followed, which must have made things worse (if possible) for his family

I agree that he always seem to come across as a nice guy and a good police officer - so sad for his family and friends

BBC last night suggested he had had several affairs, including the latest one with a well-known Manchester business woman

I think it is totally irrelevant whether he had an affair or not. Whatever drove him to take his own life must have been troubling him for some time and it is tragic. Do we really all need to know the ins and outs of his personal life? It is just that, personal, and his family will be going through all the agonies of bereavement, which must be even harder to bear in the case of suicide. I wish them well and hope that the media does not make the situation worse for them.

We are as humans the only species that commit suicide. (the lemmings theory is false). I suppose it is because we "think". How sad, but sometimes the blackness is uncomprehensible. xx
