Mane already rubbing

My mare has a long mane and having spent all summer growing it back; after putting on a lw rug for the past 3 nights it has already rubbed out parts of the mane. PLEASE help me to get through winter with some mane left!!!

I have tried the snuggy hood and it still rubbed last year!!

Are you using a full neck or a no neck rug? I've had the most luck with a no neck rug.
Others swear by the sort of half neck rugs that have no seem at the wither.

we are using one without a neck but thats an idea (half neck) will try get one this weekend! many thanks

stick baby oil on it - I read that tip halfway through last year and it really did help my boy losing all the bottom part of his mane...
