Does anyone have any suggestions on supplements or products that help strengthen manes and tails? My boy's is coming out more so than usual at the moment and his tail is being eaten by his fellow equine friends, so I was wondering if there is anything to make it stronger and more resilient. I'm hoping to start showing him in the Spring and the last thing I want is a bitty mane and whispy tail lol.

Thanks

qr- Dont brush it! Only brush it after it has been washed, with lots of d-tangler on it. Brushing tails all the time, particularly when dirty is the best way for them to go spindly.

If its being eaten theres not much you can do about that except remove him from the culprits or spray it wth something bitter but not irritant!

For the eating- spray citronella or tea tree oil their tails, it might make the other horses stop.

Always use conditioner, don't wash it too often, brush it everyday you don't want knots to appear.

mane and tail spray will make it more brittle and if you keep brushing it will be very thin very soon! get the neck covers or neck rugs off! tails being chewed ............. think the other horses are lacking something! give them more hay and do your horses tail in olive oil and then some stockholm tar!. will look a mess but they wont eat it!!!! or have you got an appaloosa?

Thanks peeps

Lisel - ah that's what I was searching for, have heard of it to but for the life of me, couldn't remember what it was called.

I try not to brush it too often but he's a cob with a lot of mane and it gets very knotty and messy very quickly. I'm also trying to train it to all sit on the right-hand side so do need to brush it over. It hasn't been washed for a while due to the cold weather so not over doing it there

I have been using neck rugs recently so this may be a reason for it getting rub out a bit. Gone back to my standard neck now though so hopefully this will help.

ofcourseyoucan - he's a cob

don't want to make too much of a mess of him because I'd like to start showing him soon. The horses that nibble his bum are known for it, they've done it to others too so unfortunately, not much I can do about that except try to deter them.

Was thinking a tail bag might help, is it ok for those to be worn in the field?
