Does anyone use a mane and tail rake? If so, might sound daft, but how do you use them? and if anyone has a picture of a mane that has been thinned by a mane and tail rake please can you post it.
Both of my horses have thick bushy manes and niether of them like it being pulled, thought i may be able to thin it using one of these?

I don't have any pictures - I use one which I got from 'Pets at Home' its designed for use on long haired/matted dogs, its fabulous!

I use a main rake on Arch coz he hates having his mane pulled.
Its ok, but when it starts to grow back it looks abit pants, as all the rake does is shear the inderneath of the main off so when it grows back it looks abit crap. You really need to keep doing it.

You'll be able to thin it, but it won't look fantastic. This is a pic of a half-completed mane.. the bottom half lies flat and is thinned enough, whereas the top half is still too thick and flops all over. I use it on her forelock as well, but it still looks bushy in that photo

I got my rake from pets at home as well.

Just bought one (tail rake) and its great! My horsey has gone from having a mad bog brush to looking quite refined (around the rear end anyway!)

Try Smart Manes and Tails from Stortford Saddlery you can find them on ebay). I use mine on my CBXWD tail and it is incredible! You end up with a pulled tail effect as well as thinning it! They are about £14.00 and are the best i have ever used! Recently won our last 6 outings and 2 judges commented on how beautifully pulled his tail was!! I was honest and told them what i had used, one judge even asked me for details!!!
