This is the second time in 2 years, my mares mane has fallen out at this time of year, it is not a rug rub I don't think as she has been wearing a snuggy hood with the silk lining. But all of a sudden it has fallen out, about half way up the next a good foot in the middle. Any ideas what it is and any other ideas of how to grow it back quick? This is silly as nothing seems to be getting scurvy it just fell out.

Is she turned out with any other horses? My mares mane kept falling out then i noticed one day our other pony was self-grooming her and scratching her neck, which made her mane fall out. Her mane has stayed intact since the pony has been out on loan :)
If she is turned out with other horses, it might be worth spraying her neck/mane in a foal tasting substance and see if it makes any difference.

I have just ordered Megatek for poor Hugo's mane - same thing happened a few weeks ago. It has sprouted a little, but he still looks like a punk rocker!

I have never used it before, but it seems to be recommended by lots on here (and elsewhere) so we'll see!

Thanks for your advice, I don't think it is another horse grooming her as my other girl is out with her and they hate each other and just chase each other around. I have got the megatek stuff but did try it last year and didn't see a huge improvement, how is the best way to apply?

its the half neck, full neck and hoods which cause the problem. over heating the hair follicles! buy a traditional neck rug and a dandy brush next year and you will be fine!! for now get back to a traditional cut rug, and some megatech, and pull the rest really short.
