So Im started to faff about now, somebody said on here yesterday about mane has to be on the right side however my boy who has a massive thick mane grows off the left side, we have our first showing show (just in hand youngstock) local level in April, do local level worry about this too?

they will prob pick up on it, plait it over and put a neck rug on it, do that the night before to but dont make the plaits to tight so it doesnt crinkle the mane

My horse's mane grows on the 'wrong' side too (well noone informed my horse there was a right and wrong when he was born!). Personally I think it is a daft 'rule' but when i do plait him I just plait it on the 'correct' side.

MY boy has this problem too, he's a traditional cob and his mane is on both sides. I've been slowly training it to all sit on the right, mainly by pulling it over most evenings but have also plaited him up with loose plaits a few times and left those in for a week or so, seems to have helped. Although I still have some falling to the left, it comes over to the right much easier now so I'm hoping to just fix it in place with hair gel or something when I come to showing him this year hehe

Plait it over onto the right side regularly to "train" it the right way. Start now and do it regularly, don't leave it until the night before, especially if you are showing as an M&M and need to leave the mane loose.

If you are showing plaited it isn't such a problem as you can just plait it the "right" way on the day, but if it is loose you will need to start training it over now. Brush it the "right" way everytime you groom and use chunky unrolled plaits or a running plait to hold it over for speed. Use water/gel to help get it to stay too.

It will be great plaiting practice though!

I always put it into little *pony tails* on the right hand side and leave it in for a few days, when its out i brush it over everyday. Did this with coblet last summer and its still on the correct side now!

mine grew on the 'wrong side too' and when i plaited i plaited on the left. i have entered showing classes and won, went into championship and won that too - i know its riding club level but still didnt get marked down - county level yes you may get marked down but rc or local dont worry - i didnt and have the red rosettes!!! lol......now doesnt matter she hogged!!!!!
