Pulled the horse's mane tonight, took a lot of the thickness and the length out of it, but still not sure if it is thin or short enough as I'd like.

Would you leave it to settle for a bit before deciding to take anymore off? Don't want to regret taking any out and for her to look silly till it grows through a bit!

I've always pulled and then looked, looked again and then want to take more off, normally that is the time to step away for a day or two otherwise i end up taking too much off, oops.

I always take my time pulling manes like a couple of weeks at least pulling from different areas on different days, then I keep the mane tidy by pulling a few hairs every week. Stops the horse feeling like he's under attack. Also stops the regrowth all coming back at a similar time - learnt the hardway when my youngster grew back a mohawk!

I suppose it depends on how confident/ experienced you are, the thickness of the mane and how nicely the horse stands etc.

I always whip my WB's all off in go but I like it nice and short (3 and a bit inches) as easier to plait, he stand nicely so easy to do.

My welsh is currently doing M&M so just a tidy up but i still keep it at about 6 inches as he looks ridiculous with a long forlock.

If i had a horse which didn't like it or had a hugely thick mane then i would probably do it in stages.

Either do it in stages or if you do take more off it grows back so not a huge drama either way.
