both ponies need their manes pulling, but they both absolutely hate it. one will just squash you into the wall wont hurt you just enough to keep you still. other is a baby but she will pull back and go up, which i definitely dont want i've tried having them stood with haynets, clove oil on the neck, doing little bits at a time. its not happening anyone got any bright ideas please

Cross tie them its the safest way. then they cant squish u against a wall. Also just do little bits.

Once its done if you combn their mane every day with a metal comb you'll find that it keeps their mane thin anyway

Why dont you try using a solo comb instead of the conventional way, ponies may stay still as it wont hurt them!

Mane rake and trimming scissors!

I never pull manes now, think it is inhumane tbh. Think about it - if someone came up to you and started pulling your hair out with no explanation, you would object too!

My 16.3 tb won't let you pull his mane. He pins you against a wall or rears and at that height it's scary.
I personally don't like solo combs, I find them awkward to use. Instead I use a razor comb (I got it from my local saddlery), it literally just razors off the mane but looks far more natural than a solo comb and i find it easier to use. I think mine was only about £7

Boots do a hand held razor thingy (and you can buy extra blades for them too) which I use on my mare - she freaks out if you try and pull her mane but is fine with me using that. Just do a small bit at a time til you get used to using it though!

i waited till mine was sedated for her teeth being done then pulled as much as i could. will have to wait another 6 months for the rest!

I ended up doing Penny with her loose and basically walking around in circles around me. She coped better like this as she would just freak if I asked her to stand still. However I still couldn't get the top 3 inches done (I'm a midget) and when the vet came to stitch up her eye he had to sedate her so I attacked it then.... very mean mummy
