Ok so i bought my mare with a pulled mane, really nice and tidy. Was never really keen on pulled manes but really suits her and i would love to maintain it if yoo cood guide me as to how?
I've always pulled manes with a normal comb, but because my mare hates having her mane pulled, I got a Solocomb for Christmas. Provided I can get similar results with the Solocomb, I will use that method from now on (if I can't its back to a regular comb I'm afraid).
Did our bigger boy yesterday. His has to be pulled because he's got so much thickness and he's looking much smarter now (what with the re-done, more radical clip as well). I pull when they're warm after exercise.
I wish to confess yesterdays sin.....i used scissors on my girls mane. only to get rid of the length before i pull it properly but i felt ever so ashamed as i was doing it.
Either proper pulled method, or on tricky horses or the SJs we use a blunt clipper blade, brilliant method, and good if your horses mane is thin and you don't want to pull much out. Use it as you would a pulling comb
I either use the normal method or a large serrated knife. I much prefer using the knife because it is so much quicker and the end result looks like a properly pulled mane. I use the knife to get the mane to the right length and then I slide the knife underneath the mane from root to tip to thin it.

LOL!
I do that too
To be honest, if you pull or solocomb after trimming the length, you get the desired effect anyway
