My horse is an Ardennes X and has a really thick mane that lies on both sides of the neck.

Other than hogging - what would the answer be for the occasional day hunting?

Is his mane long? I'd do a running plait. That said, I've seen enough fully feathered, hairy cobs and natives out hunting with full manes and tails that aren't plaited. My preference would be a running plait though, keeps it out of the way.

You could do a running plait up both sides I bet, if it's really thick :D Doubt it's technically correct in any way, but would be smart and solve the problem!

His mane is long at the moment because he's not doing much.

I usually do a 'Trojan' - not quite a hog.

I can't hog - he has a large keloid scar under his forelock and it makes his poll lumpy.

I am quite liking his hair long though and wondered if the hunting crowd would be snarky if I rocked up with a 'non hog' or a running braid?
