How many people use them and what sort of a finish do you get?

Also do you use them to simply thin the mane or shorten it too?

Friend has asked me to do a number of her horses, but they arent keen on traditional pulling with a comb and i hate solo combs so they are both out of the question

Pics would be much appreciated along with any tips

I thought they were for tails rather than manes. I would have thought it would make them spikey and stick up I like the normal comb can't beat a properly pulled mane.

They were originally designed for tails but they've been adapted for manes too now

I would prefer to pull traditionally with a comb but her horses won't tolerate it apparently...

I use one in combination with a solo comb and get a result every bit as good as with traditional pulling. First of all comb the mane to the wrong side and use the rake to thin it. I use the mars rake as have found these to be the best, though they are expensive. Clippersharp sell them. Then comb the mane to the right side. Use the solo comb on very thin sections of hair. Back comb the same as you would to pull the mane and snip off at the roots. Alternately take the next strand, back comb then slide the solo comb to the desired length and snip off. If you work this way and snip off at the roots, and at the desired length alternately, you get a really good finish. Finally snip off any stray hairs with scissors.
