Firstly, I'm sorry for posting 3 times in about a week (

). But, my horses, especially Wings, has lost the majority of his mane this winter. Today, I saw another horse (my sister's) chewing his neck, where his mane is.

I was basically just wondering how to get his mane to regrow swiftly, as I really want to do some dressage this summer, so obviously need to be able to plait, and at the minute, there is mane on his withers, mane at the top 2 inches of his neck, and nothing in between but the odd scraggly strand.

I am NOT going to hog, as the only horses I have seen hogged, their manes have never grown back normally, only straight upwards. Also, he is a warmblood, so wouldn't suit it.

Does anyone have any recommendations as to how to help his mane regrow before the end of spring, start or summer?

Fly's has done the same! His usually wild, bushy thick mane has almost completely disappeared, I'm hoping it grows back as quickly as it usually seems to...

My friend had exaclty the same problem and she tried using a neck rug or a turnout hood (quite expensive), the horse just chewed through the hood! So my friend had to move the horse into his own field and it grew back quite quickly, but this isn't an option for some! My boy has lost a few inches of his mane, and does every winter, but always grows back by the spring!

Well hopefully it'll grow an inch or two before spring, even that much would be fine

. I've stopped putting a neck on when stabled at night, so just on through the day, if that is what is causing his mane to be rubbed out, if not, might put some nasty tasting stuff on his neck to deter sister's horse

The same thing has happened to our pony and supposed to be showing her in spring. I brought some mega tek after reading about it. I don't know if it's coincidence or it really has worked but the mane is def coming through now.

Same happened to my horse last year...

So I hogged him, I just couldn't stand it! I have let it grow back over the winter and now it is fantastic, so don't dismiss hogging.

Pig oil is supposed to help the mane grow, cant tell you how effective it is as still waiting for results, only started putting it on a few weeks ago.

Thanks everyone, might give the pig oil or mega trek a go.

Desert_Flame, how long did it take for your horse to regrow a couple of inches of mane with the mega trek?

And Weezy, could you post pics of your's hogged, I just don't know if it would suit my boy?
