A section of my horse's mane stands up straight (where it rubbed on a rug and then grew back). Has anyone tried using a hair straigtener or cordless steam hair curler to make a mane lie flat?
Mine does this all through the summer and I have tried EVERYTHING!! I think hes part zebra and so when the summer comes the mane goes up! Its totally flat in the winter
I have heard of show jumpers using hair staighteners but its not something that I would want to do! I would just try bunching it up ( wet first) and letting it grow a bit longer, otherwise those lycra hoods can be good, I just don't like the ones which go over their heads. Or just leave it, if you plait for shows it doesn't really matter!
If you horse is stabled, plait it, leave in for a day or so. Then lay it ever night with some water and gel. Buy a fly sheet with a hoody and stick that on, it does work honest.
You may need to let you mane thicken, as sometimes its not heavy enought to lay.
Doubt the straightners would work, just keep them for yourself lol!
Mine does this too! I've found it's better if you pull a tiny bit out of it each week, otherwise it's all one chunky length which definately won't lie down. Then wash it and put it in pigtails while it's still wet, just a couple of "turns" of plait does the trick, you don't need to plait all the way down.
I used a hairdryer on my mare once. I blow dried it over. lol Yes I am insane but I was desperate at the time. It worked but I now have a lycra hood which I use over night before a show. lol
