Mane Thinning

My mare appears to be losing her mane quite copiously. She has never done this when changing coat before (she is now 10), and has always had a very thick mane, but it is coming out quite substantially. I haven't found any deficiency in my selection of books which shows this as a result. So has anyone come across this before? any suggestions? She is fit and healthy in all other respects, though she is still losing her winter coat.

Merlins mane is thin at the bottom third...... he did have a full neck rug on all winter but now he has no neck cover. It isnt growing back at all though... if anything its thinner

Could be the time of year?? but never been like it before
