mane thinning

my horses mane was such a mess last summer so i hogged it , now it has grown back one half is lovely and lies to the side the other half nearer the head is more thick and all lies towards the head not to one side, how to i go about getting it thinner and to lie flat?

Pull the thicker section and then plait it over to the side you want it to lie, leaving the plaits in for a few days.
