Can anyone recommend a surface that offers value for money and quality? Also, can anyone recommend someone to install a manege in the midlands? South Leics?
I have Mansfield sand with fibre - the F100 stuff, plus Springride rubber. It's great - wouldn't recommend the sand on its own as its quite firm, but with the rubber on its a fabulous base layer as it allows the surface to remain stable, the rubber stays on top and gives good cushioning - better for falling off on - I know, I've done so twice but bounced, unhurt!
Before i had this surface I had wood fibre - chose the more expensive stuff at over 3k delivered but it was absolutely rubbish - moved about loads, was slippy, got really churned up despite hours and hours of rolling to the point that i suspect it was the cause of my horses suspensory injury - vet put it down to the bad surface - he refused to go forward on it (he goes fine on the sand and rubber and he's sound again) and i wouldnt dare jump or lunge on it- i've ended up paying way over the odds for my new surface - could have had an expensive waxed one for all the money i've had to spend putting it right. But fortunately, i have no complaints with the new one - hardly have to level it, just rake round the sides and level occasionally.
