Can anyone tell me if it is normal for a menage surface to need topping up under 2 years of it being laid?

completely new surface too!

My manege was put in under 2 years ago, from new. it now required frequent watering. I contacted the supplier, and they said i need to purchase a topup from them

i am livid!!!! i was expecting 5/10 years, not 2!!!! and i was never told this would be expected!

What is the surface - sand, rubber, wood? Under the legislation something is expected to last a "reasonable" amount of time. I don't know if reasonable in this context has ever been defined in court, I suspect not, but 2 years isn't it. Speak to Consumer Direct?

yes i will - i have already spoken to them regarding the company who put it in, who messed it up bigtime, and the drainage he put in floods my yard every winter! hes on his last chance to put it right before i take it further.

i wont name and shame publically, but if anyone is thinking of getting a manege done in the northampton/bucks area PM me and can discuss privately!

I have the same surface, from a different installer / supplier. it was put in 3 years ago and they told me that I would need to top up in 10 years. Currently, it is better than when installed as it has finally settled properly. I think that you do have cause to have a moan at your supplier.

I could but it would only be hearsay. If you need an expert opinion, I suggest that you discuss the issue with another arena firm, preferably a top-of-the range installer. if you wanted a written opinion from an expert, it would almost certainly incur a cost but you could also seek advice from them about how best to manage a poorly installed arena in the future. I feel for you, they are a huge investment.

Ask (in writing, emails will do) several good installers for the conditions needed to manage their installation once it is finished, including how often it will need topping up. Their replies will be in writing and hopefully provide you with the evidence you need
