ok, this is gonna sound completely dumb but here goes.. Why do we have to pull horses manes.. I have to confess i do my own horses and its a complete chore, hurts my fingers and i tend to pull it a little sorter than the norm so dont have to do it too often as it bores me whilst doing it. So I was thinking, as we dont compete and are happy hackers.. can i just not let it go long and wild? or is that against the norm and the people at the yard laugh at me?

obviously a pulled mane is easier to manage/plait etc.. but would she look silly?

feel free to kick me up the butt and tell me to pull her mane tonight as it kinda needs doing again!

Of course you dont, people normally only pull manes if they need them short enough to plait. Leave your horses mane alone if you dont show and dont like doing it, she'l be thinking the same. If people laugh at you for it they're a bit sad to be honest.

I think it's all about plaiting up, but I personally prefer mine long and flowing

I am trying to school more neck onto my OH baby horse as he is chunky enough elsewhere to carry off the maxicob look. Poor boy has BIG hair ATM as he hates having his mane pulled

, tried solocombs/smart tails etc but its soooo thick last season i plaited him for hunting and they looked like 21 golf balls

(so thick they sat in 2 rows)whereas the others have 9 neat plaits

I don't pull my horses mane or do anything with it at all. It is left au natrel and being a Welshie, it suits him. It is also a great barrier for flies in the summer!

Oh I am so going to get it when I say this, I use scissors to trim the split ends of Jake's lovely long mane. Only the split ends.

It's ok, we did something despicable to the shettie in the pic....but seeing as it's hot, she's black and she isn't going to any shows this year....we seriously thinned her mane out and cut lots out with scissors!!!
