Hiya

I noticed my horse has little scabs in his ears, do you know what I can bath/wash them with ? I can't see any critters in there, a few years ago a few of the horses on my yard had ticks from the sheep that broke through the fencing regularly.

He was shaking his head a few times when I rode him, thats what made me look

Any ideas/remedies would be much appreciated

Hmmm, my old horse used to get horrid blood-sucking black things in his ears, vile things.

Current one has sweet itch; and am wondering from what you've described if perhaps yours is being bitten by midges - perhaps he's rubbing his ears too which is why its looking like it is.

I ride in an ear covering/veil thing which has helped a lot, plus when he's out he wears a fly mask with ears.

You could try this and see if the situation improves; if it does, then you'll have your solution!

The other thing I do with mine is to spray some Avon Skin So Soft onto a sponge and gently wipe it all around his ears and that helps immensely with keeping midges away; so much so that while its been blowing a hooley lately he's been able to go out without his mask on. Again, you could try this - it won't do any harm and might do a lot of good.

Maybe aural plaques? My horse has them. I would google images and compare.

if they are, the best thing is to leave them completely alone :)

Here is one piccy... Do they look anything like this?
