Manor Farm BS Report (and some exciting news)

We managed to get fully SOAKED at Manor Farm on saturday, when we went to jump the Devecoux star. However Arctic jumped a fab clear in the first round, proving that i *can* ride in a rhythm. The JO wasnt as straight forward. I havent jumped many BC qualifiers (this was only my second) but the JO was pretty strong. A steady clear probably wouldnt of been enough although there was a couple of four faulters in the last qualifying spots about half way through.

I decided i'd keep a good canter but take as many tight lines as i could. This worked out pretty well until i came to fence eight (a double with an upright on the way out), where i asked Arctic to turn a little early. I think this distracted him and he tapped the pole out with his back feet... and i knew i'd have to be pretty quick to qualify. With this in mind i took a very tight turn to the last fence and unfortunately it just didnt pay off - we had the back rail off the oxer and ended on eight faults.

Also... some very exciting news (i wasnt going to say anything but i cant keep it under my hat much longer). Tomorrow Arctic and I are off for a lesson with Michael Whitaker!! (The Master class for Horse Magazine). Excited is an understatement!!

watched the video on YT earlier - arctic looked fab, and your JO was pretty impressive, such a shame about those two though

Are you going to go to Blue Chips anyway? The schedule is out today. They have Open classes which you don't need to qualify for from 1m up. Also Novice (not to have won £175) series which needs no pre qual.
 
Just an observation but I think he may have had the poles down behind because you asked for your turn just a tad early but what a lovely horse and how exciting for you to look forward to many competitions to come, good luck

and good effort with the blue chip q

without meaning to speak out of turn or offend (so easily done here!) it seems from your reports its usually the jump off where things go a bit pear shaped - have you tried 'not trying' in the jump off? sometimes you can try too hard? obviously im not saying go round at snail pace, but just economic route without pressurising yourself or getting too excited. artic looks quite naturally long striding, and you'd be surprised how quick a long striding one can cover the ground without really pushing too much.
just a thought anyway....you can ignore if you like!

The first pole we had was definitely for this reason... i need to wait just that split second longer (easier said than done sometimes in the ring!)

haha... yes im aware that my poles always seem to come in the JO and i am working at it at home wth my trainer... unfortunately i think sometmes its my nerves that get me 'excited' so maybe i'll get better the more we do? There is always something to work on!
