Hi all-

Have just this morning started using manuka honey on a wound- wound is slightly dirty.

I put it on this morning for the first time and literally think it started to look better within half an hour so really pleased, worth the money!

However, because of where it is and the horses being out, I haven't been able to wrap it. I know you can get dressing type things that I could look into but would have to order online I think so wouldn't get them for a couple of days.

Is it ok that it isn't wrapped?

Also, how often should I be washing and reapplying? Do you wash it off and reapply once or twice a day, or just keep applying? Baring in mind it isn't wrapped although isn't in a place where it will get filthy dirty?

Thanks

I last used manuka honey on a wound just under the eye so no possibility of wrapping it. It was absolutely fine and healed extremely well.

I put more on top. With that particular pony there would be no chance of washing the wound - he is exceptionally headshy.

I just rinse gently with plain water, pat dry without disturbing any scabs etc and re-apply morning and night, has always worked a treat for me. Out of interest, which activity level are you using? I found there was quite a difference between the supermarket ones ( umf around 10, I think) and a more expensive one from the health food shop which had a UMF of 25.

Currently +15 from health shop but have just got a tube of act something medical grade stuff so will switch to that from now on.
