Marble for Mare

I wondered if anyone on here had tried this. My rather hormonal mare is on Regumate all the time. My vet suggested the marble, which I have heard about, but wondered if anyone had used it on a mare. It seems a relatively cheap procedure compared to Regumate.

Had a mare at old stables who was a complete cow - very violent - had the marble and seemed to make a little difference but not a lot, she got sold to a hunting yeard before the owner gave it time to show. She had totally lost her confidence in it.

Al though I did seem to connect with her, but could not afford to have her myself ! sniff sniff

OH's mare had marble after Regumate and it worked for 2 weeks until she spat it out in the field!

She was extremely hormonal and unrideable in season.

We now have her at home and have increased teh turnout and follow more of a routing with her and she has been brilliant this year - the only thing we can put it down to is that she is more comfortable in what is going on, rather than being in 2 days, out for 1, in for 4, out for 6 etc and she now has Coligone.

Since being on the Coligone she has needed no other mare supplements at all.

Even vet was amazed at the difference in her - he had suggested an ovarectomy

Thankfully, my mare is a sweetheart so I don't need it myself (well maybe I do, but she doesn't LOL). That said I have always thought the principle an excellent idea. They work like an IUD contraceptive in humans, mimicking pregnancy and just as in humans, they can dislodge and come out, but it doesn't happen often and just needs another popping in! Again, as in humans, it should work for a majority. I certainly wouldn't hesitate if I had a mare that had a bad time with her seasons
