Hello, I have a 25yr old TB mare that has a history of been colic prone. I've had her since 7yrs and know she is still regularly in season, and very much in touch with her hormones! I am keen to be able to make the correct informed decision to lessen the risk of her having season/hormone induced colics 1 to keep her comfortable & two to reduce the risks because of her age. I would love to know your experiences & thoughts on this, pros & cons & anything else you are able to tell me. In all respects she is very much 25 going on 2yrs but due selling one of my 3yr olds I have had to change who goes with who etc & she is getting more interest from the gelded colt who's friend was sold-please do not try suggesting I change the order again as having now only 2 mares & 2 geldings, the plan was to put the girls together & boys together...big gelding has decided the 3yo is devils child & needs to be killed so I've had no choice but to put him with his mum & keep the 25yr old mare in an adjoining flat field so she can be near her mare friend and turn the big bully gelding out on the hill fields next door to her but away from the little one& mare...do not like to put Jessie(25) on the hill fields as they are much too steep.... I am reducing my numbers (my health)& selling the remaining 3yr old sports horse & possibly the big gelding too & just have the mares..in the mean time & with spring looming I've got to be very mindful of the spring grass which has previously been a trigger too, no matter how carefully I manage her. Many thanks
