Hi does anyone know what this may be, my mare is dribbling spots of urine randomly in her stable not peeing she is just standing and will dribble.
I was standing holding her in the barn tonight and she did the same thing, didn’t spread her legs or lift her tail just a small dribble to make a wee puddle on the floor.
There is no smell from her urine or backend so I’m not sure if it’s an infection or not?
I’m not sure wether to phone the vet or not either (obviously not the emergency vet but one for during the week)
She is completely fine within her self, if anything she is actually being a bit spicy.

This is my first mare (gelding girl!!!!) so I’m not sure is this a mare thing?? Help!!

Some mares do have discharge when they’re in heat
But it is the middle of winter so would be a bit odd
No chance she’s pregnant
(You should get the vet either way)

No, no chance she is pregnant although im not sure if this changes anything there is a stallion stabled a few doors down from her but he has been there a couple months now and this has only just started.

She still shouldn’t be able to come into heat in winter unless she’s given a jag. Prevents foals born in winter when it’s cold
Their seasons are based on the light

According to my vet when I asked him, a lot of mares come into season all year, most he prescribes regumate to use it all year for this reason.

The more you know! I have 4 mares at moment and none have ever come in during winter! Or any I’ve met on livery either
Must be annoying for those poor mares! Get no break from their cycles

Yeah, a fellow livery has a mare like this. Going into heat year round well into her mid 20's. I'm pretty sure her breeding years are over, but her hormones say otherwise! Fortunately her heats aren't "bad" and she's nice while in heat. Doesn't seem to bother her terribly.

Hi everyone a wee update, I think she is in season 🙈🙈
Like I said I am a gelding girl!! So have only had her long enough for her to have 1 season where she became VERY in love with the mare next door, well today she was going off her rocker when said mare left and only settled when she came back (hasn’t been like this since her last season)
A couple other mares on the yard are also in season so this may explain it!

Thanks for all your advice everyone

My girl used to come in season if I left her under a solarium, or sometimes when I left the stable light on a bit too long in the evenings.

Probably unrelated and me being silly. But like clockwork if she had been under the solarium she'd be in season within a couple of days.

Is she squirting? One of the mares on our yard does that regularly when in season.

As a side note all of our mares are still having seasons despite it being winter!! Bizarre!
