I noticed this morning that my mare was eating the shetlands droppings. And as she was eating them she was squealing and striking with her front hoof. As soon as i saw her i stopped her immediately. I pick up the droppings every day so the paddock stays clean. Could the eating droppings be down to lack of vitamins/minerals. She has no hard food only grass which seems to be sufficient for her as she is a native and has enough grass to keep her going.any advice appreciated

This could be a lack of vitamins, fiber, minerals. Boredom is also a possibility - and I would not completely rule out a worm burden.

Maybe you should have a chat with your vet.

The most common reason for this is an imbalance of bacteria in the gut. I would suggest you might like to try a pre/pro biotic (not sure wich would be best) maybe give a handful of chaff daily with a does of Yea-sacc

yes i might give a pre-biotic a go and mix it with some chaff and then monitor her and see how she is. She is due for worming this week so il give her a dose if wormer and the two together should do the trick i hope.
