After a visit from the local equine expert vet my mare has to go to clinic tomorrow for nerve blocks and Xrays. My usual vet had diagnosed a bone spavin originally but when Richard saw her the other day he said she was too lame for a spavin and is in a lot of pain and is thinking more possibly she has fractured the navicular bone..

Has anyone on here had any successful treatment for such fractures?

yes, my friend's horse had a fractured navicular bone and made a full recovery... is now eventing at Intermediate level.
one of my horses fractured the top off his navicular bone out in the field, was operated on to remove the floating part. came completely sound, but then started putting up new bone growth... vet said there was nothing they could do, and as he was crippled by it, he was pts.

i think this was a fairly unusual response to the treatment though.

They originally thought my horse had a spavin, but it turned out to be PSD - damage to the high suspensory ligament. It was picked up on the nerve blocks.

Good luck tomorrow.

good luck with your horse. mine went to hospital for a different reason, and although it is hard to leave them there or even just to take them to a hospital environment, you have to keep thinking that its all for the best. and all the staff are always lovely!!!! plus when you bring them home and put them in the field and see their happy faces, all the worry is (momentarilly) forgotten
anyways, good luck, and i hope your horsey is ok
