Hi our mare who we think is around 20 years old, is so lame one day that she can put her front foot down and then she's fine the next day!
I cant see any signs of a problem, nothing in her hoof, she has a old tendon injury on the other leg, and windgalls on the leg she's lame on, there's no heat.
When we spoke to the vet they said they need to see her when she's lame so we cant make an appointment, we'd have to have an emergency call out.
Any ideas?

Hi there

My mare was like this when she fractured her pedal bone. Hopping lame to the point she couldn't put weight down... then fine next day! The vets couldn't find anything obvious and after 7 weeks of on/off lameness she went to vet hospital for xrays and they found she had fractured her pedal bone! 3 months box rest and corrective shoeing sorted her.

Good luck with finding your mares problem. x

My horse was so lame one evening that had it not been a Sunday, I'd have had the vet out to put her down straight away. The next morning she was fine again. Turned out she'd been pratting about in the paddock on the hard ground and really upset her arthritis. The next day I grabbed her ear and told her in no uncertain terms that she wasn't to do that to me ever again!

Thanks for the replys! I think where she's had such battered up legs in the past and typical thoughbred feet, she's just so sensitive and stiff, that she just goes lame very quickly, we brought her as a light hack a few years ago but barly ride her anymore as she's like this.
