Mare in foal with impaction colic

I have a mare that should be 7/8 months in foal going off the time she was a.i she was scanned 3 times and showed no signs of twinning, reabsorption etc. My question is this , she is suffering with impaction colic and is currently in at our vets they have been unable to tell me anything about the foal as they say they cant feel it due to the impaction does this sound correct or at 7/8 months should you be able to feel it anyway she is a maiden mare that is quite big naturally , my other mare who was Ai ed on the same day is showing and looks in foal should I assume that something is not right here any advice welcome.
