I've only had my mare just over a month so haven't until now experienced her when in season. She's a sensitive thoroughbred but ususally the most laid back, non mareish horse you could meet so i never expected her to be any different when in season.
This morning when it came to getting her out the stable it took about 5 minutes as she would not walk on, just planted her feet and stood there. When i did get her out, everytime i tried to brush her she squashed me against the wall. This is completely the opposite of how she is normally as she's dead easy to handle. Also when putting her rug on she acts like she wants lots of cuddles and kept putting her chin over my shoulder but she's so strong it was more like a bear hug! lol
Tonight she would not walk up from the field, she would take a few steps then just stand there and refuse to move. I had to get my pony out the field in hope that she would follow her up but it didn't really work! Also not to mention she's stopping every 2 minutes to wee.
I've never experienced a mare like this so don't really know whether this is normal or not?! I'm now in a bit of a dilema as we're suppose to be doing dressage tomorrow, our first competition since middle of August so was really looking forward to it but the way she is at the moment I m not sure it's even worth taking her. If she won't even lead without stopping and weeing every few steps then i highly doubt we'll make it through a dressage test
Anyone else got a mare like this? Any advice would be really appreciated!!
