Mare in Season

Hi,

You need to excuse my ignorance here, we have 3 horses, one of which is a mare. Thing is unlike other mares she does not 'squirt' when she is in season, but we do notice some mood changes with her.

My daughter was showing her last week and she was in a real strop!

Question is what ways can you tell if mare is in season?

Not all mares 'squirt' when in season. Some have extreme behaviour changes where others will hardly show any signs. If you keep a diary of her mood changes you might see a pattern.....

You can expect similar behaviour every 21 days! Unless you take steps to intervene.

There are seveal supplementary feed additives which claim to modify such behaviour or you can use drugs etc it it is really bad. i would try the herbals 1st then consult the vet if it becomes a problem.

my little mare dosent squirt and not marish at all ? then i bought another 1 who was the oppiste and a right cow who squirts if you just walk past her

KarynK - My mare who I have owned for a few mths came into season (we noticed the squirting) 30th March and hasnt stopped since - it the cycle is 21 days how long does the season last usually? Her mood has been terrible though shes still normal under saddle.
