My 14yo ISH mare has been a bit droopy the last few days. Nothing you'd really notice if you didn't know her well but just not 100% herself. Lethargic is the best description. Her temp, respiration, membranes, eating, dungingall totally normal but she just has this look that I know isn't right. She's a fairly good doer and is on a handful of coarse mix with chaff and a general purpose min/vit supplement. I thought it might have been the heat as the first night i noticed it was monday. I've spoken to my vet and we've agreed if no improvement they are going to come out and blood test. Just wondered if anyone else had the same thing?

My last horse had something similar although she had a slight temperature too. I was schooling her and she couldn't canter, I knew then she wasn't right even though like you everything else had been normal. I called vet and they took bloods which showed a virus, she had a course of antibiotics/bute from what I remember.

I'd keep her quiet and call vet on monday. Hope she's ok soon xxx

Our 3 horses ( 1TB steeplechaser, 1 x Welsh Section C and 1 x Welsh or irish Cob) have been very lethargic over the last 3-4 days. In their case I'm cetain it's the heat. The Welsh and the Cob are both growing substantial winter coats, and the s'chaser is trying! We are just Happy Hackers so took them very steady today - one has a loose shoe anyway - and will keep them like that until the heatwave is over. We bathed them off on return from ride, and when I looked out at 6.30 pm it was much cooler and they all looked alert and well again and grazing happily.

Hope your mare is better soon. Anyway the blood tests will tell you if there's anything more sinsister at work.
