Mare 'season' question.

Hi everyone, I am looking for some answers to some questions so I thought this would be a good place to start asking. So here's my first question: When a mare is in season, is it normal for some red staining on the back legs? I have a grey mare and this obviously shows up but do all mares get this?

Yes it can happen i have seen it before when its there first full season of the year.

Yes, a little Shetland I was using as a companion suffered from this and it was messy as she was a grey. My two mares don't seem to be affected, although one of my mares had very swollen teats earlier this summer when she was in season.

I have a coloured Mare who's back legs are unfortunately white. They get absolutely filthy when she is in season.

my mares black, and they still get filthy! its not an easy substance to wash off either!
