my lovely gee gee has just come into season for the first time and is a bit of a nightmare - not unmanageable but she just gives a bit of a fight when you ask her to do something. She seems a bit uncomfortable when you groom her quarters and is scratching that area more, which are probably me being over cautious. Just wondered if any of the mare supplements you see on the market are any good? My instructor has said that we can speak to the vet if she gets worse but i havent had her in summer yet so want to aviod this if i can.(not sure what a vet would do) shes a sensitive soul so want to help her.

I've always found with my mare that the first season of the year she is a nightmare, then she's ok for the rest. She got very hormonal when she was abt 3 so after a bloodtest she had a course of meds from the vet which sorted her out.

First and last seasons tend to be tricky!! as they are 'transitional' ie. coming in for first one or finishing set.
My mare had a tricky last one last year...screaming her head off, fidgety, not really noticing much but making a racket all the same!! She wasnt acting like her normal 'in season' self and it continued for too long...I had the vet out and gave her an injection as her ovaries hadnt released. Within 2 days all done and fine again..and our ear drums recovered!!
My previous mare had painful seasons ie. she would lay down a lot, be sensitive around her back area...I used a herbal mixture called Regulate which seemed to help her.
A vet wont just give you anything until they have done a check-up...ie. internal, hormone levels.

Someone told me that first season of the year is painfall as there ovaries are expanding. I used to give mine regulate that really helped.
