Mare swollen teats

Hi there. I've had my 3yr old cob a year now and she's always had large teats. Recently she's become extremely defective about them. If I try to get anywhere near them she gets very stressed and worked up. At first I assumed it was because fly's are starting to come out again but no I don't think so. They've obviously become sensitive somehow. The lady I bought her from who's yard were still on, said t may be from the lush grass coming through. Has anyone experienced this before? Or similar? Also she has these little spots all over which I thought were fly bite scabs but looking closer I think they may be warts. Can anyone identify these please. Thanks
 
If they are overweight their teats can get fatty as well.

Why are you trying to touch them? Most of my mares wouldn't want me to touch their udders whether they were sore or not!

Would need to see a picture of the warts, but they could be juvenile warts, fly bites or even sarcoids - one for the Vet if you are worried.
 
She is quite chunky but not particularly overweight. She did have a bad winter too when she moved yards for the winter, she lost a lot of weight. She's back in good condition now but they never seemed to change.

The only reason I ever touched them is to clean them. She gets a lot of build up between of grease and dirt and old skin so her skin gets sore if not cleaned. Just seems odd how defensive she's become.

Thanks for that. I've searched about Juvenile warts and I think that what they are.
 
If there is a lot of clover in the field that can give them swollen teats and can occasionally have a mare produce some milk
 
Hi, again! I've had Storm nearly 2 years and she still has an issue with large teats. They fact they never change size I'm assuming she just has large ones �� However she has increasingly gotten more defensive over them. Not that I pester her touching but it's getting to a point where even brushing her back legs she's swinging around and even threatening to kick. The only reason to get near them is as statd before, she gets lots of build up of skin, grease and dirt and needs cleaning so she doesn't get sore (and give her an excuse to be a mardy mare) Ive considered it being her hormones but she doesn't seem to have any other effects to indicate this. She's not particuury overweighted and she is on different land which isn't very lush qnd doesn't contain much clover and is fed hay.

In regards to the spots. They were juvenile warts and have now cleared up ��.

Again if anyone has any suggestions, they will be appriceated. Thanks .
