Any idea what it could be? She has a swelling the size of a small rugby ball (shape wise) between her teats and her belly button. It's soft to the touch, fluid-like. It's not actually on her teats, but in front. Her teats are normal.

My mare has had this for about 5 years. She is now 13. Hers would be worse when stood in, and go down a little with exercise. My vet was a bit stumped and did a biopsy which showed that it was lymphatic fluid, maybe an old injury causing a pooling of fluid like when they get filled legs? My mare mainly used to get this in Summer and I did wonder whether it was hormonal, but she has it all year round now, it is quite noticeable. Watching this thread with interest to see if anyone else can come up with anything.

Glad it's not just mine who has it, she's 16 now but is turned out 24/7 with 2 other mares in about an acre and a half field and ridden 4-5 times a week (time dependent, but I'm fittening her up slowly.

Could be oedema which can be indication of heart or kidney failure so would be worth getting checked out. Of course it could be as simple as a reaction to a fly bite but better safe than sorry.

My mare also has these please see pic like your girls, hers goes up and don't Every day is different, although they do get very much larger in summer! Vet due tues just to have a look she's had them 3 years on n off now,but this year by far the worst, not life threatning obvs! But just wondered if any one had gotten a diagnosis from there vet as to what these are, they seem to be quite common.
