hi i no i dont post much but i always have a good read up on here, can some one help as i got a mare who i throught was in foal so had vet out and had blood test done and thay came back that she was no in foal then a week later the vet rang me up again and told me thay have found some thing in the blood so just keep a eye on her,so today i went up the yard and notice a puddle on the floor and it looked like she had a wee and it had real thick yellow mocus please can some one tell me what it is.

I would imagine that she is in season?

Did the vet not discuss with you what was wrong with the bloods? Or was it just a normal blood count that was a bit off?

Vets took blood to see if she was in foal and it cam back no she was not then a week later thay rang me again and told me thay have found something but was not sure thats all thay said to me but as for the wee on the yard it was really thick yellow like snot sorry to soukd rude but thats what it looked like

Ah, well I would ask the vet to clarify what it was they were unsure about, if I were you.

Sometimes, when my mare is in season she will 'wee' like this if there is a gelding around

(if it is what I think you mean) - looks like a normal wee but whiter and thicker?

This is normal, but I would talk to your vet just to be sure.

Hi Luckly - you do need to talk to your vet again. Mares are funny things and unless you do a pregnancy test at exactly the right time you can get false results, ie it could show not pregnant when she actually is. Can't remember the exact timings but its something like only up to 100 days is certain with a blood test. Beyond that you really need a scan to get a definitive answer but scans are expensive and not without risk. When they told you they'd found something it could be that they mean maybe she IS pregnant or maybe she is pregnant but is losing the foal or maybe about to foal any minute! Or maybe the bloods showed up something totally different eg liver problems or infection or something. So give them a ring and ask them to spell it out exactly for you. You're the customer after all. If it sounds like gobbledygook and they can't be arsed to tell you in English, make a note and put it on the forum. Someone will be able to tell you what it means and what you need to do. xxx
