Just over a week ago I bought a 5 yr old paint cross mare.

when I put her out with the 10 yr old gelding a 2 yr old mare it became obvious that she was in season.
She was running backwards into both if the others and squirting at them and they both took no notice.
A couple of hours later however after her persistance, the gelding started trying to mount her.
I separated them and put the new girl in with my shetland mares.
My dilemma now is that it is turning cold here now. Today is like -8 but has a wind chill of -17. and we have severel inches of snow.
The Shetlands have a small field shelter, but its not big enough for the new mare to share.
The other horses have a nice big shelter with plenty of room, but I am not sure whether to try putting the new mare back with the gelding.
she must be finished her season by now, but will he still be interested in her?

What would you do?

some mares are terrible flirts and will continue to try to attract male attention.TBH most mares will come into season when taken to a new home where there is male company. When I moved my gelding to his new home one of the mares continually begged him for it and he did oblige

.However with in a week all had settled and they were happy in each others company without either of them taking too much interest in the other.Provided you take precautions such as removing shoes to begin with you should find that they will settle down.If after a few weeks however she is still being a complete tart with your gelding then it is probably best if you keep them apart.
