Hi there,

I have a lovely 7yr old mare who just doesnt seem to ever come out of season!! In 2012, she first came into season in early February......and she is still in season to this day....Surely its far to cold for this??

Does anyone else have any experience of this? I have had marbles etc, tried oestrus, tried ignoring it even!! But the poor divil suffers terrible when she is coming out of season, cramps, tenderness - severe pain. She comes into season every 15 days or so, As a result she gets every 3rd week off; this is because she is in pain and can be a little vicious so she is best left to it.

I am not too keen to try regumate owing to the costs involved, and the warnings for women of child bearing age!!

Have been in discussions with the local vets about what we can do but looking for other peoples advice on how to manage her seasons or even any alternative therapies

Since I have worked out her cycles and give her the time off when she needs it she has started to come on even more in her work and can concentrate better but this seasonal issue is a magor problem!

On a lighter note, ever season she takes a fancy to certain horses, first season is the big grey lad, and the season is the chesnut guy and the bay dude.....it has been alternating like this for about 3 months now!!
