Mares in season question

Wondering if I should get one of the supplements for in season mares? Got a field companion mare for my gelding recently, she has come into season this week and is totally obsessed by a mare in the next paddock ! When I bring her in to feed groom etc she just screams and shouts and spins round when tied up or box walks. Have left her on the yard for an hour or so to see if she calms down but doesnt seem to make any difference. Not having had a mare before Im not sure what is usual. do you think a supplement would help or when she finishes her season will she calm down ?

She should calm down once she comes out of season, this is apparently the worst one of the year (Spring), i have my mare on Oestress, you need to feed it for 3 months before this Spring season for it to have a proper affect though. No harm in starting your mare on something.

My mare turns into a psycho when she's in season, bucking and squealing when you ride her. I ended up getting the vet out as I thought it was because she was in pain during her cycles, turns out I was right and the vet inserted a "marble" which simulates pregnancy and means they have a whole spring/summer cycle and pain free. Its a bit old fashioned and possibly a bit over the top for what you need, but worked really well for us and worked out a heck of a lot cheaper than a supplement for the duration of the spring/summer!

Thanks for replies. Ill hang on for a bit then and see what happens. Havent ridden her yet and not looking forward to it now! May have another one that wont go out the yard on her own whilst she is in love. Sighs....... On the bright side the gelding is not at all interested.

My mare goes a bit mad when is season, namely jumping out her field! After two injuries with her last year, catching her leg in barbed wire and the next time getting her hind legs stuck in the metal gate, I've put her on the global herbs supplement Frisky Mare and its worked wonders, we are on our 4th season so far this year and you would never now. She always was good to ride when in season just a bit spookier and stiffer over her back end, but now you wouldnt even know she is in season. I would definatley recommend Frisky Mare, its really worked for Bally.

Didn't mean to put you off, my mare is the most amazing horse I've ever had and has a lovely temperament usually, thats why I knew she was in pain and had to do something about it.
