How long do mares stay in season for? Recently bought my first ever mare.

My sweet girl has turned grumpy. she has got serious PMT! :)

Mine are 3 - 5 days depending on horse.

You may find her first season of the year is the worst.

When mine first arrived she was a little overwhelmed by all the geldings... Stayed in season for nearly a month.
Now it is usually a few days... In spring she starts almost every time she sees a new boy! Lol

i had a mare that would come in season everytime she saw one particular gelding (she'd have kicked him if he'd got within 10m of her) - made her very mareish including squirting
Other than that it was usual 3 days or so. You could only tell as she'd lift her tial when grooming.

So - sorry cos I'm thick :o - they come into season every 19-21 days and it lasts 3-5 days?

I was expecting lyla to come in season this weekend (based on 19-21 day rule :o) but tonite riding her, trying to get her attention?! Even if I'd smothered myself in haylege and all things yummy I don't think she'd have noticed

Am still new to mare's too and ADORE her as I do, tonight was hard work  but then on reflection she tries so hard the rest of the time I've been spoilt

Mares rock (99% of the time!:D)

We have 2 mares- one never shows and the other is so bad we are thinking about Regumate or similar but we hate the idea of drugs unless for medical emergency's
