I'm in a pickle.

Both my mares keep losing their shoes!
One of them lost 3 not so long ago whilst the other lost 2. On calling the farrier out i decided that i'd rather just shoe the fronts as in winter i do little road work due to it getting dark so early on. However, my mare has still managed to lose yet another shoe!
My field is not muddy, although when it does rain my mares seems to have an extra spring in their steps. They love the rain and gallop about in it. My farrier suggests that this is probably whats causing it as they both have good, hardy feet, so its not due to poor condition.
I've got to call the farrier again as my mare has lost yet another shoe. This has never happened to me before and i'm really stuck for what to do. My farriers brilliant in the respect that she doesn't expect money for putting one shoe back on but i still pay her for coming out as its only fair.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how i can avoid my mares losing their shoes, or is it something i just have to put up with?
I've recently moved to a rented field as its since being at this new place that its happened.

Many thanks, Michelle

If you don't do much roadwork and you say that your mares have good feet why not take the shoes off totally?

I have with my boy a year ago and it's great, have saved SOOO much money!!

I Could do, its in the summer that i go out on the roads more, but I just like knowing they have a bit of protection on their feet, plus i like to keep them in a routine with the farrier.

Plus I have certain weeks were i'm more likely to go out on the roads than others in the winter, so i'd rather have the two front feet shoed.

A frind of mine puts insulating tape round the bottom of the hfoot and round the shoe, then puts oner reach boots on, this seems to work really well. I know the insulationg tape sound a little random but it works for her!!!!

I don't think its my farrier as i've used her for over 3 years without a problem at all, she is really good at her job.

I believe its more down to my mares little 'fizzy' moments!
I've brought over-reach boots and i'm going to give them a try...one of my mares continuously bruises her front hooves although she's never bothered about this, thats the main reason why i've brought them. Hopefully they'll help with the shoe problem too!

We'll see!

Thanks guys =]
