Just wanted to give a heads up to everyone in the Oxfordshire area that theives are about at the mo. We have had two mares marked for theft with plaits clearly in their manes, which are NOT wind tangles and were NOT there the night before. Both mares are cob/native types which the police officer at our yard said are the type typically marked in this way. So keep an eye out guys.

Give up.... I am! Comments that make sense get ignored - it doesn't fuel the scaremongering. After all we have to have something to frighten the horse world.... Last year Europeans in vans, this year (oh and last too) 'tagging'. Doncha love the way rumours escalate. And no I am not apologising for this post.

Oh and if you guys out there with 'plaited' horses are so worried - fork out some pennies and get your horses FREEZEMARKED! Makes sense doesn't it?!

Grrrrrr.....

Did the men doing the plaiting look like they had eastern european accents?

I've heard their taking horses away in the back on an Irish reg transit van.

My aunts, second cousins, mums brother told me.

The horse world is full of nutters. I worry.

That what i keep thinking, surely they wouldn't let you know they are going to nick your horse, they'd just take it

That would be like a burglar knocking the day before saying 'Oh, by the way, just letting you know I'm going to break in tomorrow'

Whilst I understand the frustration of some with the numerous posts of horse 'tagging' that they may feel is nothing to worry about, I feel that for all of our horses' sake we should accept when people post with their concerns about plaits in manes, and keep and eye out. There is absolutley no need to post the - 'its a wind tangle / scaremongering' opinions. We've all heard them before. Instead, can we only post positive or useful comments?? Is every bit of imformation we get to improve our own horses' safety not a GOOD thing?!?

Yes, please get your horses freezemarked AND microchipped for there safety. Please listen when these tgs occur in your area and dont shoot them down so quickly. Is all information not good information??

No, mis-information is NOT good information.

An overload of mis-information with everyone who has found a wind tangle or heard that their friend might know someone who has found a wind tangle posting means that REAL posts of missing horses or information on how to keep horses safe are lost.

Edited to add: Going from your username you will find it out once you are qualified. As soon as something is published about, say, the possibility of a new disease, perhaps Australian Yellow Willy fever, and the 0.1% chance of it's being brought to the UK on the soles of people's boots you will find the surgery inundated with people wondering if their horses might have it and every call out you do for something simple will be complicated by the owner describing for you the reported symptoms of Australian Yellow Willy fever as they are convinced that that's why their horse has gone lame. You will in vain tell them that it only strikes chestnut geldings and they have a bay mare - they WILL know better and be panicky.

Then tell me that all information is good information!

All I'm saying is that is that is does no problem being vigilant. If people have concerns, let them voice them, not the endless droan of sarcastic remarks and general ignorance.

Nah, PF, it's Blue Nipple Syndrome. Which, for the record, is NOT related to Blue Ball Syndrome!

LMAO!!
BTW, we've got a filly with 2 'plaits'. Somehow they were done right in front of the YM's house and no one noticed. Not even the 2 large and one small dog! Those horse thieves really get about, don't they!?

I'd just like to point out that googling "Blue Ball" can cause some strange websites to appear. And if anyone's wondering WHY I was googling "Blue Ball" it's because I spent a large number of my teenage years drinking in the Blue Ball in Grantchester!
